Workshop I – Early Year Graduate Students

Friday, March 6, 6:00-7:30pm

Workshop info: The panelists will offer insight in hopes to mentor and better prepare early graduate students in navigating different parts of their graduate program experiences. More specifically, the panelists will offer tips on preparing for one’s comprehensive/qualifying exams, creating one’s committee, applying for research grants, and give tips on conducting research in the field including possible difficulties accessing archives and/or ways to take care of yourself while in the field. This session is designed ideally first year PhD students, but open to second years and any other graduate student that would like to join.

Workshop II – ABD and Advanced Graduate Students

Saturday, March 7, 6:00-7:30pm

Workshop info: The panelists, composed of both junior and tenured faculty, will provide insight for ABD students either preparing for or applying to the job market. They will elaborate on the institutionalized challenges and biases minority identities face, share practical tips on interviewing skills, elaborate on ways to balance the expectations of research and service upon graduating, and inform students on the publishing process.
