Do not fret if you missed the initial deadline to submit an abstract for SECOLAS 2017 in Chapel Hill, NC. You may do so until December 1, 2016.

Options for submitting a panel or individual paper abstract proposal

  1. Use the PDF form that allows to fill in the data and save it. Email it to secolas2017@gmail.com. Be advised that this form has given some people fits.
  2. Or, submit a MS Word Document (.doc; .docx) that contains the following information:
  • Individual Paper Proposal
    • Discipline (History/Social Sciences or Literature/Humanities)
    • Time Period (pre-1800 or post-1800)
    • Presenter’s name, institution, email address, and status (e.g. graduate student; independent scholar; emeritus; faculty, etc.)
    • Paper title
    • Paper Abstract (150-300 words)
  • Panel Proposal
    • Same information as needed for the individual proposals. Please include the relevant information for all presenters, panel chair, and discussant

64th Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies
(SECOLAS)

Chapel Hill, North Carolina
March 23-26, 2017

Proposal Submission Deadline: November 1, 2016

Conference Theme:
“Between Revolution and Rapprochement in the Americas”

SECOLAS welcomes submissions on any aspect of Latin American and/or Caribbean Studies. We encourage papers and panels that address the conference theme (broadly conceived).

Graduate student presenters will be eligible to apply for the Edward H. Moseley Student Paper Award for the best paper presented at the SECOLAS meeting.

After the conference, all presenters will be eligible to submit their paper for publication consideration in the SECOLAS Annals issue of The Latin Americanist, an international, peer-reviewed journal published by SECOLAS and Wiley Blackwell.

Fill out the SECOLAS 2017 Proposal Form and submit it to the following email address: secolas2017@gmail.com.

The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2016.

5 days until SECOLAS kicks off its 63rd Annual Meeting

On Wednesday, March 9, SECOLAS will open its 63 annual meeting with a fun walk on the beach!

The conference will begin in earnest on Thursday, March 10, with the Executive Committee meeting (2-4pm) and the opening reception at Café Havana.
